Village appellation Loire Valley
Village appellation Loire Valley

The Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame Appellation is produced in 17 villages in the Maine-Et-Loire and Vienne departments.

What are its most particular characteristics?

Grape Varieties

The Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame is a red wine producing appellation, essentially produced from the Cabernet Franc grape (85%). This special appellation requires producers to comply with many strict rules;

* A double vine control in July & October

* A ban on total weeding

* A minimum 8 month ageing of the wine

Terroir

Situated at an altitude of 50-105 metres, the soil is mainly Eocene & Jurassic chalky limestone and Turonian sandy-clay.

Tasting

The Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame is a strong yet balanced wine.

The red fruit aromas of blackcurrant and raspberries, sometimes crystallized, go really well with game or dishes cooked in a sauce.
